I Was Gonnae - Who We Are
Across Scotland, We Are United in Our Dedication to Help
Who We Are
I Was Gonnae is a registered Scottish charity that provides innovative experiences, personal development and employability services in Scotland. We offer a forum that inspires and empowers individuals with the knowledge of some of Scotland’s most successful people. We want you to realise your ambitions by increasing your wellbeing and knowledge resulting in healthier and happier communities and genuine individual and community progress.
The vision behind I Was Gonnae was the creation of Callum Smith and Stuart McDonald. Stuart and Callum met while working on an economic development programme aimed at helping to create jobs and apprenticeships as part of major construction projects. A connection and shared vision were developed and forged into I Was Gonnae as the vehicle to pass on what we have learned.
Collectively Stuart and Callum offer 30 years senior executive experience within a wide range of Private/Public roles.
Stuart has operated his own employment advice and training business for the past 20 years providing services within both private/public sectors and has developed his own Career Lifestyle Management training programme.
Callum has been working within the charity sector for over 30 years and currently works for a Scottish charity that cares for and supports adults and children with a wide range of disabilities.

Our Story
How many times do you hear people say I Was Gonnae do that! But they never managed to get around to it. We have all done it. For the past 20 years Stuart and Callum have been working with people to try to help people develop.
Stuart and Callum met while working on a project in the construction industry designed to create jobs and apprenticeships for people in excluded communities.
Both offer over 30 years senior executive experience within a wide range of Private/Public roles.

— Our Mission
I Was Gonnae will provide a forum for hope, increased wellbeing, knowledge and confidence ensuring we all live in happier and healthier homes and communities. We believe that there is significant room for improving the performance within this sector and are passionate about bringing a person-centred approach to improve and reintroducing excellence into the sector. We aim to be part of a paradigm change in how people are supported to realise their potential benefiting society as a whole and making Scotland a more confident nation.
02.
— Our Vision
To be leaders in the use of virtual based remote collaboration services applied to the application of employability services Scotland wide. We believe that the employability industry is at the start of a new phase in its development which will bring about significant change. Scotland and technology have developed at an extremely rapid rate over the last twenty to thirty years with the development, adoption and integration of the internet into our daily lives. This change has also revolutionized the way the employability sector can work. However, the fundamentals of how individuals are supported into work remain unchanged.
Our vision is of a truly connected and person-centred service provision where the skills of individuals are fundamental but where the limitations of location and accessibility of that resource are truly ‘solved’. This requires effective remote collaboration but when applied appropriately will open up employment opportunities to those currently excluded from the job market.
By doing so, we aim to engage those hard to reach, create barrier-free access to employment, reduce the carbon footprint associated with work travel and increase the attractiveness and potential of virtual work as a career path.
